Installing iTunes on Windows
iTunes is the tool for interactiong with your iphone from windows. Unfortunately, comming from a Linux world, it is not as straightforward as it seems to get a working version of itunes.
Amongst others I ran into problems of
- an outdated library file
- problems with the Apple Mobile Device Support driver
Let's start from scratch
remove installed version of iTunes
source: ms support -- uninstall apps and programs
Basically
- Uninstall from the Start menu
- Select Start and look for the app or program in the list shown.
- Press and hold (or right-click) on the app, then select Uninstall.
- Uninstall from the Settings page
- Select Start , then select Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select the app you want to remove, and then select Uninstall.
- Uninstall from the Control Panel (for programs)
- In the search box on the taskbar, type Control Panel and select it from the results.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Press and hold (or right-click) on the program you want to remove and select Uninstall or Uninstall/Change. Then follow the directions on the screen.

follow Method 2
install iTunes and AMDS from Apple
- download 7-up installer from: itunes 64bit installer
- unpack downloaded file using, e.g., 7-zip
- install files
AppleApplicationSupport.msi
AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
It might be necessary to reconnect your device and restart the AMDS sercvice
- Hit Windows-R
- run
%ProgramFiles%Common FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers
- install file:
usbaapl64.inf
